L’Ilot is a Belgian non-profit organisation working to fight homelessness and extreme poverty. Throughout the year, they support people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in Brussels and Wallonia through a wide range of services, including day centres, temporary accommodation, access to and support in housing, psychosocial support, training and employment programmes.

“Our aim is not only to respond to emergency situations, but to contribute to ending homelessness in a lasting way. Our work is rooted in social justice and the defence of fundamental rights. We consider homelessness not simply as an individual issue, but as a societal problem that also requires structural solutions.

Women facing homelessness or housing insecurity are exposed to specific forms of violence, insecurity and dependency, and often have to constantly find strategies to protect themselves or simply find somewhere safe to spend the night.

In both Brussels and Charleroi, L’Ilot develops projects specifically designed to address these realities. These include Circé, our Brussels day centre designed by and for women experiencing homelessness, as well as a new transitional housing project for women in Marchienne-au-Pont.”
